Old Gold Exchange Policy

What we accept

We accept gold ornaments for exchange against the purchase of new jewellery at any authorised TRG store. Ornaments with stones, enamel or other non-gold material are accepted, but only the gold content is valued.

• Hallmarked and non-hallmarked gold ornaments are both accepted.
• Gold-plated items, imitation jewellery and gold-filled items are not accepted.
• Coins and bars are accepted at the applicable rate for their stated purity.

How the valuation is done

Purity is established in your presence using a testing machine at the store. You may watch the test. The reading, the deductions and the final valuation are written down and handed to you before anything is agreed.

• Purity testing — carried out on the premises, in your presence.
• Stone and solder weight — deducted from gross weight to arrive at net gold weight.
• Rate applied — the TRG buying rate for that purity on the day of exchange.
• Melting and refining deduction — a percentage disclosed to you in writing before you accept.

How it is adjusted on your bill

The exchange value is deducted from the taxable value of your new purchase, before GST is calculated. You pay 3% GST only on the balance, together with the making charge on the new piece.

Documents required

• Government photo identification of the person exchanging the gold.
• PAN, where the transaction value crosses the statutory threshold.
• The original TRG invoice, where available — this may improve the valuation.

What we cannot do

We do not pay cash against old gold. Exchange is only against the purchase of new jewellery at a TRG store. We also cannot accept gold whose ownership cannot be established, or which is the subject of any dispute.
